Scoring Criteria: What is considered a "fail"? (Per FAA AME Guidelines)

Ishihara: 14, 24, 38 Plates

Concise 14-plate edition: six or more errors on plates 1-11; the 24-plate edition: seven or more errors on plates 1-15; the 38-plate edition: nine or more errors on plates 1-21.

Most AMEs use the Ishihara test as their "standard" test.

AOC Plates (1965)

Seven or more errors on plates 1-15.

AOC-HRR Plates (2nd Edition)

Any error in test plates 7-11. Because the first 4 plates in the test book are for demonstration only, test plate 7 is actually the eleventh plate in the book. (See instruction booklet.)

Dvorine Plates (2nd Edition)

Seven or more errors on plates 1-15.

Richmond (1983 Edition)

Seven or more errors on plates 1-15.

Optec 900

An average of more than one error per series of nine color pairs in series 2 and 3.

The Optec 900 is the "new" edition of the Farnsworth Lantern, which has become increasingly hard to find.

Farnsworth Lantern (FALANT)

An average of more than one error per series of nine color pairs in series 2 and 3.

Titmus Vision Tester

Any errors in the six plates.

This test has a high failure rate for CVD pilots.

Titmus i400

Any errors in the six plates.

This test has a high failure rate for CVD pilots.

Optec 2000

Any errors in the six plates.

This test has a high failure rate for CVD pilots.

Keystone Orthoscope

Any errors in the six plates.

This test has a high failure rate for CVD pilots.

Keystone View Telebinocular

Any errors in the six plates.

This test has a high failure rate for CVD pilots.

Richmond HRR (4th Edition)

Two or more errors on plates 5-24. Plates 1-4 are for demonstration only; plates 5-10 are screening plates; and plates 11-24 are diagnostic plates.

City Occupational Colour Assessment & Diagnosis

Score must be:

RED GREEN (RG):
Normal - less than 1.7; OR
Deutan - less than 6; OR
Protan - less than 12;
AND
YELLOW BLUE (YB) - less than 2.4

Rabin Cone Test 

(Air Force/ Army/Navy/Coast Guard Version)

Score must be 75 or higher for EACH color:

RED
GREEN
BLUE

Waggoner Computerized Color Vision Test

Score must be: 

General - 21 or higher (of 25); AND

OR

Protan - 20 or higher (of 32); AND
Deutan - 20 or higher (of 32); AND
Tritan - 10 or higher (of 12)
